I keep burning up solinoid s.  WTF?  I have replace the starter solinoid and grounded battery and engine to the frame.  Has anyone else had a problem with a issue like this?

Hi fellas. I've been busy preparing for the rainy season, among various other sundry things. Starter relay? How many have you gone through?

We might be talking about the same thing. This is a big relay in the battery box that sends power to the starter motor when you turn the key to start. The term solenoid is more used in the auto world where the device closes some large contacts to electrically connect while also shifting a gear into contact with the ring gear on the flywheel. Just a matter of what you want to call it, I suppose.

What is going wrong with them? Coils burning out, contacts burning up, or ??

Not sure on most of them I can arch the poles with a spark plug and it cranks.  This time arching does not work.  Something internal is bad.  When key is turned relay/ solinoid just clicks.

If you mean that you are jumping across the large current contacts of the starter relay in the battery box and nothing happens, then I would check the cables/connections from the battery to the relay, and the relay to the starter. Sounds like a bad/corroded cable. Just a place to start checking.

X2 plus also check the ground cable from the battery negative terminal to the engine case. It gets loose down at the engine case sometimes. This often leads to a fried ground pigtail, unless you have the SteveS fix in.

I have the Steve S fix and the cables are good from what I can see.

I'm assuming the battery has a decent charge? Since jumpering across the starter relay contacts does not do the trick, try using a decent jumper cable from battery positive terminal to starter motor positive terminal. If that fails, it would likely be the starter motor itself.
