| I have 14g od's with Jame's sheave and recently changed my stock secondary spring to a purple one from James. My first ride testing out purple secondary spring was excellent! I had talked to James about wanting more low end out of my 660 and his recommendations were spot on! Actually his exact words were "I think you'll be tickled to death with it!" Well he was right. Great low end punch in the deep stuff was what I got! Oh, and I prefer not to grease my ods.
Anyways, my inaugural ride with the new setup was going fine..until I sunk it into a nasty mud hole! Long story short, muddy water got in the clutch from the cvt exhaust. Drained the cvt then took the cover off and found a fairly muddy mess. I cleaned the sheaves well but when I fired it up to test, the belt would not ride up to the top of the secondary. I rinsed and rinsed clean water into the primary sheave until it ran almost clear but the belt would still sit down in the secondary. Keep in mind this is all done in the bush and, I had no impact to take the clutch off.
Got it home, took off the primary to find that the sheave still had grit in it and what was holding it up was caked mud on the cam plate sliders. It wasn't much but because it's greasless, it was really hanging on the sliders.
Cleaned, reinstalled and good to go!

| i did the same thing on the HRRF ride. the inlet breather tube got knocked off the case and it filled with water and mud. the plate that mounts to the sheave didn't allow the mud to "escape." i couldn't get it going any faster than about 10 mph. that's when scott towed me back to camp. twas rather embarassing, but the lil fo-fitty made it through everything else that day i just finished putting it back together today. i left the plate off this time. i also used a gates shrink-fit hose clamp (o'reilly part no. 32960) and a little strip of duct tape on each surface to give it some grip. hope it holds, cause this isn't the first time it's happened. if it does happen again, i'm interested to see if leaving the plate off makes any difference. | |

| That's good to know about the breather tube, haven't had any problem with mine yet but haven't ran the HHR Circut either. Are you talking about the safety shield when you say 'plate' that you took off? | |

(plate) the cover for the sheave that has the o-ring. when i opened her up mud was caked against the sides (centrifugal force) and "froze up" the weights. i think the force of hitting a large body of water at high speed forced the breather tube off the collar on the engine case

i was running greasey greased before this incident. after i cleaned everything up i just put a little dab on the inside of the weight channel to hold the weights in place and a little smear on where the slider hits the weights. really just enough to let everything slide more freely. don't know how it will work out, i guess time will tell

I did the same thing. And left the cover off the back of sheave. If you're running a lot of grease , you must use the cover.
