Ok had some issues a while back, broke 3 motor mounts and because if that the filter on my k&n volecity intake got a big hole in it from rubbing on my shifter linkage, fixed mounts and made this custom intake

Now at wide open af goes 18.0 and engine starts sputtering real bad.. I have a wideband and idle its at about 13.0, upped the main jet from 155 to 170, no change, after talking to jbs i checked the woodruff key and tdc on flywheel the piston is on tdc.. Any ideas what would cause this thing to go so lean at wot, still lean with just open carb no filter or intake pipe

with the carb open and no filter you are just making it take in more air and leaning it out even more, what elevation are you at

I agree, taking the air filter off will lean it even more.  are you sure the jet you changed was a 170? we used to drill our jets so the number on them didn't matter...  Might want to see if you can mic them some way or drill them the right size..

Also, check for an air leak on your intake side..

Positive the jet is a 170, checked with brake clean no vacuum leaks after carb, its like the main jet isnt working, it doesnt make any sense

have you taken the carb apart and cleaned it?
if you had a hole in the filter it may have sucked something into the wot circuit of the carb.

Yea i havent do that yet, thats what im going to do today, its just weird i drove it on the street with no filter open carb snd everything was fine, started it a couple times to move it around, then built custom intake that puts filter under shifter sticking out by my feet and now it wont rev.. Really strange

this filter you put on could it be causing a air restriction, also what size pipe did you run in place of air box

without the air box it might not be creating enough vacuum to open the carb slide , the slide is opend by vacuum not by puching the skinny pedal, just my guess

Same size pipe as the k&n volecity, 2", filter is a off the shelf spectre, slide on carb opens with out intake or filter on so dont think that is it, going to clean carb and triple check everything this weekend, got a pretty cool trade offer of a 686 motor for trade for my stock 660, 686 has a broken rocker. Most likely from coil bind going to look in to that, also getting a hsr 45 carb. Just need to get mine running better first

Ok figured it out, pulled the slide part of the carb apart, cleaned and reassembled, now with 170 main jet air fuel is 10.5. Time to ho back to 150 and go have some fun!!
