How much do 27" swamplites affect top speed etc? My rhino has a lil bit of extra weight with and extra battery, bumper, winch, roof/stereo/ half windshield and some itp wheels with swamplites. As for mods theres a machined sheave/ orange sec spring/ alba exhaust/ uni filter/ mudbuster cam 4100-1/black rhino cdi. Top speed would be like 47ish on flat dirt roads. Now it has been faster with stock exhaust stock cam and 26" mudlites etc am i giving up that much because of the tires? The carb has been tuned before and after with a innovate lm-1 and currently has a 155 main 45 pilot i think.

I forgot to add this is at roughly 3000ft. Ive checked the belt its right in the middle for wear measuring pretty much 1.25". Any ideas where i should check first think ive covered everything i can think of. Sheave is clean and greaseless right now secondary just got serviced and antifriction washers added with orange spring, new wet clutch with 4grams of lead added, throttle cable checked and adjusted afr is 13.1 at wot. Fuel pump and filter may be a year old. Anything ive missed that could lead to this? I havent done a compression test but engine sounds fine and uses no oil. Right around 2000 miles on the rhino.

I guess you jack it up and make sure all the tires spin freely. Who's sheave do you have?

Wish it was a jbs but its a utv inc and has the 1 mm shim the belt has rubbed the cover but not alot. Ive bought the sliders and 700 cam plate off james and plan on getting my old sheave done. I do not think its the sheave tho at least not top speed.

If you have the stock tires laying around you could throw them on and test it.

Dont have anything like that laying around. Dunno from the videos and other posts most ppl who can go fast are close to sea level and have smaller/lighter tires just kind of curious if anyone out there running similiar tires and altitude to me what they run for top speed. Not that top speed is that important to me but it sorta shows power which i dont seem to have. If i were bouncing off a rev limiter that would be diff story. Would love to run with them dam rzrs seems rhinos are pretty much extinct up here everyone i ride with has rzrs and can ams.

Seems like maybe i made a bad decision on the tires when i bought the rhino it had 26/10/12 and 26/12/12 mudlites but one of the center lugs got tore off and i got a good deal on the 27/10/12 and 27/12/12 swamplites. Never realized that the swamplites added like 20 pounds of rotating weight on top of the higher gear. But maybe theres something else that im overlooking.

Madmax them radial or the bias version? When you say 54 that on flat dirt road? And how long to get there?

Hmm just did a compression test warmed it up till the fan came on somewhere around 175 wide open throttle and i got just a hair under 130psi. Now my service manual says min is 163 is min and 210 is max. Now has anyone else done this with a cam was the result something like i got? Guess maybe ill check valve lash and see what i find.

Kind of surprised that nobody mentioned removing the 1mm shim... At the end of the day, that shim is costing you mph. That said, it's also helping your bottom end. Your pick on what you want to lose...
And something else that I didn't see you post or people ask.. How are you getting your mph? Digital dash or gps? Can make a difference Wink

roller flop will not let you push through it.....if you can imagine taking 4th gear out of your truck and try to carry good speed where that gear used to be and isnt gonna happen.....they have always said" theirs was the same" but its not even close...

Just thought id give an update i have access but havent done a leakdown. Checked valves tonight and adjusted 1 intake .001 so no problems there. I took my old stock sheave if i didnt live in the middle of no where up in canada i would have sent it to james but decided to mill my own for sliders and 700 cam plate. Its all done except i need to find some seals as 1 isnt in very good shape. Shall see if the top end changes as for the bottom end i just went with the same measurement as my utv crap sheave as the belt lightly touches the cover with 1 shim so i cant gain much there without rubbing and making a hole. Any other ideas i can try or check? Will call hotcams if i remember tomorrow and see if they have a cranking compression number with that cam and stock piston.

called hotcams today and they dont have a cranking compression number they can throw at me. He did say he didnt think it would make it that low. So iono i can borrow a leakdown tester and if its got the right adapter to work ill give it a whirl no oil control problems so im doubting rings but maybe something in the valves grasping at straws now lol... Would hate to pull it all apart and nothings wrong there.

if you have a compression tester you might be able to hook the connector/adaptor up to an air hose. with the valves closed you shouldn't hear air coming out of your intake or exhaust ports.

these are bias not as heavy as radials, slight uphill asphalt road really didn't pay attention to the distance

i have a 07 660 rhino. i bought 27's off craigs list. it takes me a while to get up to speed on flat trails. but i dont get faster than 40 or so. but in the sand it sucks, i only get about 32 or so both wide open. i like them they look great. i wish we could re-gear it like a quad.

Never went and got the leakdown tester but did do compression test again left engine cold got 118 put some oil in and got 122 so im thinking rings are ok. Think ill put on the sheave with sliders tomorrow and see what happens and also check with gps to see if the dash is out. The swamplites are like 3-4 pounds heavier then the mudlites. Am starting to think more and more its the tires. I realize the shim takes a bit off but i was thinking it was only 2-3 mph thats if it had enough power to get there but compared to what others say im still slow...

Did some playing with the rhino. According to gps the dash is out by 2.5mph reading slow. And the "new" sheave(od weights instead of round) seems to have made the top end a bit better also. Still using the shim. Anyway it got up to 54mph and I think maybe would have gone a bit more if I didn't run out of straight road it gets to 50 in not bad time then somewhat slow up to 54. So if I had a new belt(mines at 1.25 new is 1.312) and got rid of the shim im pretty much on par I guess. Just takes longer then id like lol.
