Got a new toy...Made a new toy

I have been wanting a 3d printer for a LONG time.  I finally had the spare cash to get one and I bit the bullet and ordered one.  Just got it set up a couple hours ago and I hade to print James off a present to say "Thanks" for the great service and all you do.  I plan on trying to make quite a few more things also so stay tuned boys and girls.  James no worries im not selling the key chains with your name on them...just made one up for you.  Shoot me a PM with your address and I will get it shipped out to ya (kind of funny how that's reversed of how it normally is)!  I don't have it set up PERFECT yet but a little tuning I will get it humming like no other.

That is a fantastic toy! It will be fun and rewarding for you, I dare say. I'm envious, to say the least. Enjoy!

LOL....my wife didn't even know stuff like this is possible and she didn't know I was getting it until she came home and I was printing stuff.  And yes I am a nerd I guess.  To confirm it even more I work in IT for my daily job.  But I shoot guns and ride my Rhino all the time also so im a complex individual.

 You use a .stl file and then a slicer program that converts the 3d image into g code.  You can use regular cad files you just have to run an extra step on um.  Really neat stuff.  Ill post some pictures of some stuff when i get done with it.  Im aiming high right now and printing something that has like a 10-11 hour print time.

That is cool.  I had never heard of a 3d printer.  Wife is making fun of me now.

Great stuff nice toy, shoots guns and rides Rhinos and in IT thats cool.

A bright Orange rubber band gun ought to keep you from getting shot by the Law, as long as you make it obvious. Beware of the really big rubber bands, as that might be intimidating.... Basic starting point for the design: any old length of 1 x 3, or so, and a spring loaded clothes pin. Add the telescopic sights if you want.

yeah i wish mine could do that.  Im working on printing out a quadcopter right now...and im talking to people about contracting out to print things.  The neat thing is when your start designing things your self.  You have to change the way you think and not think of what can i use to make things work but more like "what do i need this to do that it doesnt already" then start to imagine it in your head and then draw it in a CAD program and print it out.  I have designed several things and they all work great.  Nothing structural but like lights and so on for music stands and such.
