PostSubject: Could a line lock work as an e-brake   brake - Could a line lock work as an e-brake Icon_minitimeWed Aug 28, 2013 10:14 pm

Just read a post where someone used  a B&M Line Lock Launch Control Solenoid for a emergency brake on a RZR. Could this be used on a Rhino? I have replaced and adjusted the e-brake for the last time.  ( even James e-brake tip). The descp of the Solenoid says to not use for extended length of time but I'm talking about parking on a hill or anywhere you would use a parking brake. This would be hooked up to either the front or rear brake's. Drag racers use them so they must be reliable.

Well as far as 'drag race reliable', if it fails they just go a bit too early and just let off of the gas. Failure is no big deal. I believe they work by trapping the brake fluid in the brake cylinder, under pressure while pressing the brake pedal. The fluid leakage has to be zero, to hold the brake on for a long time, because of the very small volume of trapped fluid. A bit risky as a a device to keep the machine on the side of a hill, unattended, I would think.

Yes it will work with no problem. I used one on a buggy I built. Worked great help heep it in one spot on hills. I also used it as a kind of cutting brake. Put the t-case in front wheel drive, lock the rear wheels and drag the front end around. Easy to set and unlock. Hold the brakes, turn unit on. To release, push the brakes then turn switch off. Pretty simple. I used the Jegs brand lock on mine.

I may have to give it a try, I won't try it on a steep hill, but I wouldn't  have tried the parking brake either. I have replaced the pads made the adjustment that James came up with and it works for a while but then I'm back to square one. I never heard of this solenoid before now, but it may solve my problem.
