| Servicing my JBS sheave primary and secondary today, thought I'd tear into the wet clutch to see the condition. What do you think of the shoes? I'm pretty sure they need replacing, chipped and burnt. [img] [/img] [img] [/img] Do I have to replace the housing with the shoes? It has been heated up for sure. Check out the coloring on the outside of the drum [img] [/img] [img] [/img] | |

| 5700km (3540mi) The performance has been fading over the years. I knew it was time to take a look at it. | |

| I'm guessing mine is in pretty much the same shape. My brother and I bought a high-miler this spring and I don't think it's ever had anything done to the clutches. James, what would it cost to replace the wet clutch and the primary? Any idea what the shipping to Canada costs? | |

Actually, for the really low budget approach, It would seem that doing the weighting would revive a worn wet clutch for a while. Now, who is a guinea pig on this one?

I vote for SteveS to be the ONE ! eh.....lol Ha de Ha, Well, I was going to do the weighting and try it out. My Rhino shop is in the back yard (which is still a mudhole, for now). It makes sense and I am sure that it will make a difference. Perhaps when I open it up, I'll find blackened bacon rinds to do this experiment on. But then maybe not, eh? Now, where oh where, is my stash of illegal lead shotgun pellets???? BTW, why are they illegal, the point is to murder them birds right, right? So, in the long run, if it is an immediate spiral to the ground kill or a slow lingering death after eating those leaden seeds....... Pardon my warped sense of humor, ahead of time...

Yeah, I agree! When I push the go-pedal and the engine revs and it slowly creeps forward, can just feel those clutch shoes a-smokin in there. I sorta miss the crisp feel of a stick shift tranny. I slipped the clutch a lot on my dirt bikes, but that was only when I was desperate and had to do it, else it was the pearly gates for me. Now, how about an automatic engagement of a super granny low gear when the clutch needs a bit of slipping? Might there be a market for something like that? That is the inventor in me talking and taking over my fingertips.

| It's not too big of a job. If you're good enough to service the primary and secondary, you're good enough to replace the wet clutch. If it's worn, replace it. Once you've got it all apart, you might as well do it right! James had everything in stock. One call did it all!! Not so sure if I'll slug the new carrier. I seriously think that once I put the new one in, I'll have my performance back like it was new and won't need to add lead. | |

Yes, there is merit to doing things one step at a time, such that you can determine what each change did or did not do. I believe that I will do the slugging, just cause it seems the right thing to do. I've always been leary of the slip clutch feel at start out. Jame's sheave helps that a lot with the increased low end but it still feels slippy. But like you say, I need to open it up and asess the damage first.

| I would recomend adding weight to the new wet clutch as it will last longer because it wont be slipping as much. I have personally done this to atleast 7 or 8 rhino's over 6 years ago and we all got an extra 2 or more years out of the wet clutch, and most of the riding was in mud and thats were you will wear out a wet clutch very quick. Good luck. | |

| What is the most noticeable difference in performance when you slug a 660 carrier? How much weight for a 660? | |

| well 450 im not sure on the weight, but the acceleration is very snappy, it feels like it tightens all the loose driveline conntections up, for the price and what the effects are its a great mod,if yer into mud slinging tire spinning, then slug away. | |

| I will slug mine once i get a few miles on it when i do my next sheave service or oil change depends on the need for performance or feeling like tearing into it. | |
