| There is a good chance that you have the one-way bearing (sprag clutch) in backwards. | |

but it did sound good setting still ,almost got it out of shop Before you tear it down again you could do a couple of checks. First, if the idle is too high the centrifual clutch will be at least partially engaged when it is just sitting there. Second, a quick check of the sprag clutch orientation is to push the machine with engine off and in a forward gear. It should not roll forward when you push it, but should roll backwards when you push it. If you do end up tearing it back down, make a mental note of which way the engine rotates as seen from the clutch side. Look at the primary sheave as you crank it over in neutral. when you are putting the wet clutch back together you should not be able to turn the output shaft in that direction, but it should turn freely in the opposite direction (anti-rotation direction).

| OK I think its the one way I did the check you said ,mine will roll forward it will not roll backwards . also the idle was maybe 1100rpm which I think would be low | |

Yep, that sure sounds like a backwards one-way. The idle is indeed low. Yamaha spec is 1600 RPM.

| When installing the one way bearing the "Green Dot" should be facing you. | |

Yeah Mike, this has bitten a lot of people, going by the threads posted. 'This side out' can be interpreted 2 ways as we can see here. Do you by any chance have a picture that you can annotate to get rid of the ambiguity? A big pointy arrow would be nice! I'm going to be tearing into mine before long ('lead'ing the thing) and I don't want to be one of the 50% that get it backards! Thanks.
