| Mostly 556 for now the one I'm using now is very inconsistent (rcbs rock chucker kit) measuring by hand sucks and takes for ever | |

| lol it does take a bit of time. but I use a old postal scale for the stuff I want to get as accurate as possible. its fun for me.
are you using 55grain, or ? you doing varmint rounds, plinking or???
also are you trying to match up your ammo to your barrel twist for max accuracy? or just doing this to save $$?

| I've been using 26.5 grains of varget with a nosler varmint silver tip seems to be pretty good just takes for ever to do 100 rds on a single stage press and measuring each load on this scale | |

| I load my AR rounds on a Lee Pro 1000 (progressive press) I have tried several different powders over the years but i like the military bulk surplus stuff right now (wc846). for my 55 grn bullets im dropping 24.5 grn of powder and its DEAD accurate. I also developed some match loads using 80 grn bullets and 26 grns of accurate 2230. Those are some REALLY accurate rounds ....like 3" groups at 600 yards accurate. The great thing about my Pro 1000 is i can RELIABLY and ACCURATELY turn out about 350 rounds per hour on it (more if i really try but i prefer to go at a pace i know i can get good ammo out of it). When i swap over to my 9mm set up i can crank out about 600 rounds an hour (shorter cases so you can go faster with out them wanting to move around on you). | |

| Your metering problem is the powder , not the dump !! Varget is a very good powder ; but , it will not meter consistantly with the manual dispensers...dunno about the electric ones. I'd havta look at my notes ; but , I have a load for the 55 fmj's using varget. Basically cutts holes @ 100yds...a dime more than covers 10 shots !
I don't know what type of scales you're using ; but , a small set of digitals (postal type work well , like stated above ) will cut your time in half , compared to a beam scale !! I don't know what all equipment you have ; but , a set of the lee powder scoops , and a trickler help move things along as well. BUT...YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE IN A HURRY , while loading...and...the least amount of hands involved , the better off you are !! Trust me , I've had my share of screw-ups , because I had "helper(s)" !!
If you use the powder dump , you need to get a non extruded powder to run thru it. What I do with varget (and any other stick powder ) is , I get it as close to the weight I am wanting..."dump" it in the scale pan , and trickle more if needed. I know powder selection is still some what limited ; but , if you can find some BL C II , or H 335 (or any other "ball" powder ) , they meter consistantly. With varget , 3031 , 4350 , 4895 ...any "stick" powder...you're gonna have inconsistant throws.
Give me a holler sometime...I can fill ya in what I have "learned" . I have some extra stuff layin around you may need , also.

| If you've been using a beam scale, yeah , takes FOREVER to do a 100 rounds !! I don't know if the postal type read grains and, grams like reloading scales do or not. I bought my hornady scales out cabelas , for 30 -sum bucks...not very expensive at all. The digital scales will cut your time in half , compared to a beam scale !! I think I have an extra set of scoops...I'll be down your dads sometime this week , I'll bring them for ya. I've got a bunch of extra shit ...holler at me sometime...I may have somethin ya need ...collecting dust ! | |

| Scott, yea been using a beam ... Went and got some powder and bullets to do some long colts and they had a digital scale for 35 bucks. Made a huge difference in time I'm hoping I can use my drop with this powder (aa no.2 I think) gonna try it tomorrow when I get off work and see how it does. Yea I'll holler at ya and see what all ya got | |
