Cracked Crankcase

Has anyone ever dealt with this, a friend is supposed to try and weld it for me.

I 've not , but were on the crankcase is that

The bottom forwardmost m6 bolt

a good welder can fix it

That is good news, he is about the best around here. I think what may have caused it the cap screws to the middle pinion gear drive house were loose and maybe put it in a bind.

Finally got back to putting this thing back together, I have one question though. When I put the cases together start tightening the halves if I rotate the shift drum the drive shafts will not turn. If I rotate the shift drum back to what I guess is neutral then the drive shifts will freely rotate. Is this normal?
