I agree....a couple hours spent porting will yield good results and your already in that deep anyway. clean the valves up and throw new rings in.

| Alba Racing is one of the best companies with whom I have ever done business.Story time: After examining my motor, and after reading all of your posts on here, I decided to purchase a new set of piston rings and gaskets from Alba. I ordered these parts, around noon, over the phone. For around $100 I was back in business and was ready to freshen up my motor. Several hours later, my phone rang. It was Nate from Alba. He said that he had been check out this thread and looking at my pics from the engine disassembly. He knows a lot about motors, and he was trying to understand where the engine oil was going. The engine was consuming oil, but why? The rings looks great. The cylinder looked great. He asked me about my oil rings. Nate sent me a text message video asking me to check the gap on the wavy oil ring, and showing me how to do that. He asked me to record a video and send it to him via text message. Shortly after he received my text, he knew why my motor was burning oil... I had the wrong oil rings in my motor! The wavy ring was too small. The oil rings did not protrude past the edge of the piston. It was impossible to get the ring to overlap. Nate summarized that if the oil ring could not expand against the wall of the cylinder, then the bottom cast ring was doing all the work of scraping the oil from the cylinder wall. This is why I was burning oil and my oil seemed to get dirty real soon after an oil change! Nate is sending me a brand new CP piston, new rings, and new gaskets ASAP. Guys, whoever is reading this, I cannot thank Alba enough for going over and beyond to get me set up right. He didn't have to call me. He didn't have to give me an explanation. But he did. That kind of stuff means a lot to me. I would not hesitate one second to do business with Alba. Don't expect this kind of customer support from some shady craigslist or ebay auction. Alba is the real deal. I am just beyond happy to know what was finally going on with my motor.

| And the money pit expands. Glad to see you got that fixed. I was stomped reading all this as well. I'm not that great on four strokes but it looked right to me.
Once you get that thing back right, I wanna see it running with those 30's. I sent a video. Your turn. Lol. Good luck buddy!!!!

James has me headed in the right direction... LoL airflow velocity is important because cylinder filling increases as the square of velocity, but only linearly as airflow increases. think about that one for a minute. the more air you put into that cylinder, the more fuel you can put with it...

| The Rhino is back running, I hope it'll be running stronger than ever before! While I had it apart (for the 3rd time, lol) I just caved in to the peer pressure and got one of those heads from James. It's a CNC ported head with +2 valves and Kibble-White valve springs. I retained my Raptor stage 1 cam. I haven't ridden it yet, but I did start it up and check for oil leaks. All looks and sounds great.

| I just am utterly amazed at how this Rhino runs!
That head made a pretty big difference. I mean, it almost feels as good with the 30" Bighorns and the ported head as it did with the stock head and 26" Bighorns. I'm about to bolt those 26s on and do some running.
My Rhino slipped off into a half-dried hole full of peanut butter mud about 5 tall boys into Friday night. This mud instantly covered the whole passenger side of the Rhino, to the top of the tires. The driver side front tire was about half sunk in the cement looking stuff. The driver side rear tire was on dry, hardpack trail with perfect traction. I mean, the motor never even struggled or hesitated when the driver rear axle popped.
No worries, though!
The new rings and piston make the ol Rhino run great. It never burned a drop of oil, nor did it dirty up the oil even after driving super hard all night. Overall- super, super impressive. This is the way a Rhino should run when you pick it up off the showroom floor. It starts easy, runs cool; it's just overall a nice running motor!
