| I got a Rhino 660 and I'm about to pick up some used 28" outlaws, can I put a shim in it to get some low end until I save enough $ for some JBS work?
I did it on my Grizzly 700, is the 660 Rhino the same way?

| I had one in my 700 before I knew anything about JBS but without a CDI you will hit the rev limiter alot sooner. I ended up running some 14gr stock weights in my stock sheave and a gold secondary spring and taking the shim out and had better results with that than the shim. | |

Good question wonder if anyone has done that and what it was like. Be like Super Low in high.

| I think you'll have to experiment a little bit.
When I was clutching my Grizzly, the amount of shim it could take depended on the condition of the belt, the brand of belt, and the individual tolerances inside the sheave, weights, and collar. You might find that 1.5mm of shim is very doable with a good condition OEM belt; however, as the belt wears thinner the external ribbing on the belt could start eating up the belt box. Or, the belt might ride too low in the primary and get cut or not grip properly.
I don't have a lot of experience with the stock Rhino sheaves and what they might be able to take as far as shims go. All I can say is that the low rev limiter and the conservative sheave ramp angles mean that you will probably lose a good deal of speed and be revved out even more than you already are stock.
I know you are familiar with these Yamaha CVTs from other forums. You probably know more about it than I do... lol! I probably wouldn't recommend just anyone experiment with shims but you know a thing or two about the reduction they give from your Grizzly. As you know, you got to watch the cam plate spline engagement and belt clearance.
If you do add some shim, do a write up about it. Take some pics. Count the CVT ratio.
