PostSubject: truck question   Wed Nov 20, 2013 7:03 pm

ok i hoping some one can answer this. i am driving in my truck about 35 and i a bump or a dip in the road and the right front tires sort of bounces like it is up and down a bit and my steering wheel vibrates a bit. if i slow down or hit my brakes, the vibrating of my steering wheel and the up and down feeling from my right front tired will come to an end.
my tires all have proper air pressure
good tread on all tires
lug nuts all tight
no new work done in it

do you think this could be a shock absorber or strut ?

What make and model?
I know a lot of the Chevy's were having problems from 05' to around 09' with the left front wheel bearings going out all the time, not sure why it was always the left side but we have changed numerous left front hubs on our work trucks.

Have you tried jacking the front end up and seeing if there is any play in the front end ? Check track bar , wheel bearings , ball joints ( you need a big pry bar for this ) shock bushings ? Its all things everyone else had mentioned already. Don't let it go it will only get worse. It leads to death wobble which is 10x worse

Some times these issues are hard to track down because there is more than one factor.  It could be any one if the things mentioned here or a combination of several.  I'd jack it up and push and pull in every direction.  Have a friend move the steering wheel a little back and forth while you watch the components to see if there is any play anywhere.  Rotate the tires.  Maybe even swap the front shocks side to side.  A lot of issues are maginified by 37" tires.

to check the track bar have someone in the truck turning the wheel back an forth with the truck on the ground(not jacked up) an look at the track bar an see if it has play. sounds like a bad track bar bushing or some bump steer im assuming it has a drop pitman arm with the lift? also check pitman an idler arm for play

Straight axle Rams are notorious for the suspension arm bushings going bad.  The ones in the arms that connect your axle to the frame.  If the tierod ends and balljoints check out ok, then those bushings will be the problem I bet.  I love those trucks.  Plan on having one some day.

There are four front end recalls on that model that should be checked, Feb/07 pitman arm,July/11 tie rods,May/10 steering box, pitman arm,Nov/13 tie rod ends, some problems have been repaired with an alignment with revised specs, shocks, steering shock, track arm, shocks, tires, tie rods and balljoints. I would have the alignment done, tires set to whats on the door,if cupped replace them, replace the front shocks, gas filled if you can.

Those Cummins are heavy.  Hard on the front end components. Run forever though.

Maybe I won't own one someday. lol! I'm thinking nobody builds a good truck anymore.

What is the milege when these front end parts start to take a dump?

I'm running out of trucks to hate.  Soon be riding the rhino to where I'm gonna ride.  Only thing I ever had good luck with is 70s and 80s fords and chevys, and pre 95 Toyotas.  My 05 Tacoma was a great truck til it took a dump on me, and two dealerships gave up on fixing it after a ton of money wasted on it.

They say a good off road rig is built not bought.  I'm starting to think a street truck is the same.  Fix all the weak links just to get to work and back on the pavement.
