PostSubject: Dual battery install   Dual battery install Icon_minitimeMon Mar 25, 2013 8:10 am

I know there are kits out there...but I'm cheap and I'm not paying that much for something i can make myself and will enjoy doing. I have like $40 in the whole project (cables and battery ends and everything because i got the battery for free Very Happy ). The battery sits between the upper frame rails and the box is made out of 1" angle iron. I made mine to fit the battery I had (9 1/2" x 7 1/2"). The rear vertical pieces i cut the angle off of and bent them to match the angle of the cross support bar they are bolted to. The front support is bolted to the radiator cross support along with the battery tie down strap. I'm picking up a battery isolator as well to put on there also. It is solid as can be in there and I'm thrilled with it. It also seems to help the Rhino start easier....but that could all be in my mind. Here are some pictures of it. Sorry i didnt take more but my hands were dirty and i was in a hurry.

Here is mine with the covers off. My Sure Power: 12V 100A Battery Separator - Bi-Directional w/ Aux Start is mounted in between. My secondary battery is only a lawn mower battery, but I plan to update to an AGM soon. So far it has worked flawlessly. Surprisingly, the stator keeps up with both batteries very well, but I do keep a tender on them when I'm not riding.

This has always been my mind set. If someone else can build it why cant I? Even if it cost me the same amount i could buy it for i would rather build it. That way i have the knowlage and experience to do it next time.
