| Mine is sock. Are they ok? If so how do you service them? If not, which aftermarket is best? K&N? AFE? Does the stock one require oiling? | |

| just a thought... don't go crazy with the quantity of oil you use. they can coat inline sensors if you're fuel injected. | |

| Still running stock. When or if it gets worn, I will go with the UNI. I use PJ1 cleaner and oil. That stuff is amazing. The cleaner works like magic, and the oil sprays on even and is super tacky. No way any dust is getting through that stuff. It's so sticky, I don't think it could get sucked through the intake to get on any sensors. | |

Is this AFE filter a pleated paper filter? Paper filters are never oiled and they simply have a fine enough pore structure to catch the dust by itself. Oiling them will likely plug them up. Foam filters such as the stock and UNI filters must be oiled. These are depth filters which catches the dust within the thickness of the porous foam. The foam pores are too coarse to catch and hold the dust without the oil. Fabric filters such as the K&N are also rather coarse in their weave. They must have oil as well.

I looked at the AFE website and i'm thinking that those are impressive filters. Have you been happy with the performance (airflow)? It is not exactly clear to me what filter you might have gotten, ProGuard7 or ProDryS? In the one form, they are taking about the PDS as a pre-filter, not intended to be a primary filter. Yet in another form they are offering 'air filters' for the Rhino in either filter media, with the dry being less expensive. It might behoove you to double check what the situation is. A new fabric filter usually comes to you pre-oiled if it needs to be, so you really don't have to worry about it until it is maintenance time and you clean the filter. Let us know, as that might be the filter that I choose next go around.
