| I need a new front inner CV boot, tore it the last day in the dez(must have been a tweakers needle that flew up while I was doing 40 thru the 2' woops..lol), thank god! From my small amount of knowledge compared to you guys, I want OEM boot? So tell me if I'm wrong, I need to purchase a cv band tool, cv bands, grease and a boot, c clips and snap ring? I found some silicone boots from for 8 bucks a piece, should I buy everything seperate or get the OEM kit? Thanks for your time! | |

| You definitely need that band tool, be careful though if you only buy one band and pull it too hard they can break . | |

| I wouldn't fool with anything but the oe boots...I've used the cheapo's ; but , they don' hold up !! Call up our bud , and have him ship you one ( you're gonna be better off in the long run)...you can use a GOOD pair of pliers/needle-noses on the oe bands. | |

What year did Yamaha change over to the new style clamp? I hate them. Love the old style.

| I don't know we went down to the dealer and bought one, my boot wasn't torn but just folded in, turned out it just poped back into place. While were torqueing the band it broke. I don't remember how but we took a piece from the old and new one and made it work! | |

I'm sure someone will chime in and I'll get reprimanded for bad advice (lol)...but...I have used good , high-temp wheel bearing grease (either the black , or red...I've used both) without any problem.

If you had to use a band tool on your '06 660 boot, it wasn't a Yamaha boot kiit. Every now and then I see one of my boot collapse after a ride. Check it later and it's ok.

| I have changed more then my share of boots. I prefer Duraboot brand over OEM on all my machines. They are tougher and cost less. I also keep several Napa CV bands in the garage because I prefer them. Here is a link to a company that sells kits....maybe James should see if He can buy them and get a little discount. http://www.motormasteratv.com/ | |

| You should always use the the CV joint grease because of the way it lubes and gets in all the nooks and cranies, will last longer. High temp wheel bearing grease does not flow so much it relies on centrifugal force. | |

Moose boots suck! They don't fit and have a tendency to slip off. Yamaha boots have a lip on the inside that fit into the grooves on the knuckle. They also come with the hardware you should replace when pulling the axle.
