I work for a two way radio shop, plus I belong to the Sheriff's Search and Rescue Posse, so I have most of my radio communication needs covered....
First, and foremost, I have a CB radio. It is amazing how many Idaho hillbillies get stuck in the snow with their jacked upped four wheel drive pickups, and the number two accessory added to their pickups, right behind a cooler full of beer, is a CB radio, so that is a must have when I'm trying to find them in a blizzard....
The second radio is a dual band UHF/VHF radio, with all the emergency frequencies programmed into it. I also have all the itinerary frequencies, as well as the Coast Guard freqs....(some Idaho Hillbillies are sophisticated...they use marine band radios..illegal to do, but that doesn't stop them....).
The last radio is an 800Mhz phone patch that uses a radio net my company provides, works very well in the hills. It's funny to watch people's faces when I bring up dial tone a 100 miles out of their cell phone service area ....
Here I have my GPS mounted above the radios....
The antennas....
I built a rain shield for the radios, the 8ooMhz is milspec, so I don't have to worry about it, and only the control head for the UHF/VHF radio is exposed, the main unit is mounted in the glove box....
So let's see what you are running......
