Hello... I just replaced a buddies inner clutch and housing on a 2008 Yamaha Rhino 700, along with a JBS Modified Sheave/Weights upgrade and a brand new belt.
The modified sheave is working great as expected, but the engine braking lets go around 8MPH during deceleration (without any contact from foot brake) and was wondering if anyone has experienced similar engine braking problems. Rhino scoots up to 50MPH with no problems and the deceleration from the one way bearing works as expected when you let off the throttle until you reach approximately 8MPH... then the engine will disengage from the transmission for approximately a second or two, then "clunk" and re-engage to normal engine braking all the way down to zero MPH.
The inner clutch shoes were completely gone and the housing was wore pretty bad, so decided to replace both components with brand new Yamaha OEM... OUCH, to the tune of almost $500 just for those two items. Upon visual inspection of the one way bearing, I didn't see anything suspicious or signs of wear... so I cleaned it in gas, re-lubbed it with Yamalube and re-installed with the correct orientation per the official Yamaha Service Manual.
One thing I noticed right away as I opened the box that contained the new OEM Housing was the presence of an "extra" washer/seal item along with the housing. When you look up the schematic break down of the 2008 Yamaha Rhino 700 clutch, you will not find this item... but if you pull up the 2013 Yamaha Rhino 700 clutch schematic, it is listed under Item #9. Here is the part number and description (see below)... anyone have any idea why Yamaha added this part a couple years after the 700 had already been designed/developed, was it an upgrade or a solution to some kind of a problem encountered over the years with the one way bearing??? Not sure... but I decided to add it as shown in the 2013 Yamaha Rhino 700 clutch schematic. If anyone can provide some feedback or insight for this specific item, it would be very much appreciated!!!

Here is the address to a local Yamaha shop that I typically get my parts from and they have a helpful link to the official Yamaha schematics, feel free to check out the differences between the 2008 and 2013 model years for this specific component (P/N just above)...
http://www.stbonimotorsports.com/OEMpartfinder.htmAs mentioned previously, the engine braking works awesome all the way down to 8MPH then just let's go... not sure if the one way bearing needs replacing or if the washer/seal that I added needs to be removed? Just wondering if anyone on this site has experienced similar problems and could provide feedback or a solution. Any help or comments would be great!!!
Thanks and hear from you soon... as always, Keep 'er Twisted!!!
