yup. me too. but hindsight is 20-20, and shit happens. all parties involved were upset, but are past the initial shock. anybody have an answer as to whose insurance covers it?

| i know that i had to provide names to my insurance company of the people that would be driving it. if it were me i would just make the claim under my insurance and tell them i did it so they wouldnt have a reason to deny the claim. when i wrecked mine 3 weeks ago i chose not to even claim mine even though i had $40k worth of damage to my hand because they would have denied it anyways since i was racing and would have probably dropped me. | |

| It matters what type of coverage the owner has some will only cover a certain amount of bodily injury to a nother person and then there insurance will have to pick up the rest and sometimes that will lead into the 2 insurance company's fighting it out but if no one else was covered on his policy to drive it that could be a problem to. | |

| I would try to get some help from the friend and avoid the insurance, but if that fails do you have to the coverage and liability to cover it.Place a call to the broker and ask some questions. where I live license plate fees cover some, then your insurance covers the rest, and the deductible on some policies could be more than the repairs. Don't let people even your buddy drive your machine.(wife is the only other) | |

| The owner's insurance should cover the wreck. If his insurance goes up...thats the risk you take when you let a buddy drive.
I let my brother drive mine quite a bit. If he wrecked it I obviously wouldn't be happy but shit happens when you're hauling ass thru the woods. I'd expect him to pay my deductible and be done with it. Hard to be mad about an accident unless the guy was drunk or did something completely reckless

| talked to the owner, he's still pissed (and rightfully so) and is waiting to hear back from the driver. found out that the driver said before he left on the ride that he would buy it if he broke it. this might just turn into an old-fashioned throw down i'll post updates when i get them. | |

| Yep I let others drive mine and I go by the motto " you break it you bought it " but if it's bad enough they are paying the deductible and if it is an accident my first thought is if they are ok then it's can it be fixed
In this case if the damage is more then $500 I'd have the driver pay my deductible and report it as if I were driving and ask if my rates were going to go up. It they are try to get the driver to pay you a lump sum of the difference for 2 yrs. Day it cost $100 per yr and it goes up to $150 then they are giving me $100

| A lot of people say thangs meaning well but never come threw when something really happens. Some times it's safer just to seem like a asshole and say sorry I don't let people drive my rhino. | |

| My insurance will cover another licensed driver that I let use the bike. I am however supposed provide the insurance co with the name of any driver who I expect will be using the bike on a regular basis. You might call your agent and ask before you file a claim.
Let us know how it turns out.

| I am afraid that someone will get hurt on my machine and have to answer to a family for it,and I never ride anyone elses either. My boys have driven the Rhino my oldest was trained by the armed forces to drive, but he has still flipped several times, unhurt lucky. I like to share but there is the risk I won't take. | |

| Looks like I'm the only one that feels the owner is being kind of a dick if he expects the guys to purchase the wreck. Does the guy not have insurance for it? This is exactly what insurance if for...to expect a friend to buy a wrecked bike when you have it covered is not being any kind of friend. | |

If the driver is a true friend, he would offer to pay the deductible without being asked. The main thing is wether or not anyone was hurt!! This thread should be a learning lesson for all of us...we all need to be selective as to we let behind the wheel.

| There has to some give and take in this situation, because both of these adult riders were OK until the crash. | |

| Yeah I wouldn't let anyone I didn't know well enough drive mine and everyone I know that would even ask I trust to drive it. Hell I was a passenger in mine when my buddy was driving and we rolled. Really the only person I wouldn't want to drive it would be my 25 yr old setson because I knew how he drives lol

| it really depends on the level of insurance you put on it. on my rhino and sleds I put the best coverage they offer. cause it was like 15 bucks more a year for the best I could get.
My insurance agent had a slight shock when she quoted me and said we can knock some off by taking the medical, recovery of vehicle, ect off. and it didn't even get it below a 100 bucks a year. So I asked her what the "Mercedes plan" was and how much it cost and said lets do that one. lol
but as for buddies riding/driving my toys, I am selective. 3 of my friends I'd let take my stuff out when I'm not around, cause I trust them to dig me out of an avy if I ever screw up and get caught. if they did screw up and wreck my stuff they would probably try to have it fixed before I got back, or make it right or at least pay my deductible and probably more. as long as they aren't hurt or dead I'm happy. I carry full coverage for a reason.
Now I have a lot of friends that no way I would let take out for a spin.......even if I was there.

| i have mine insured and i asked this exact question. my agent told me that my insurance would cover it. it is much like some one borrowing your car and they wreck it, it would be covered. but i agree with others, i do not let my friends wreck it. i only let my wife and daughter drive it. | |

| My rule is I only ride someone else's toy with the knowledge that if I wreck it I fix it. If I can't afford to fix it then I just don't ride. But know one takes my rhino | |
