| Hello everyone. Just joined last week. Already bought some LED's from Flimmy. Already emailed James about some sheave work (not pulling the plug yet though). Gotta love the money pit (my Rhino). Anyway, just got the Rhino fever this May 6th. Already have over 800 miles on it. Having a great time. Especially pulling by buddies new Razr out. Good site, lots of good topics and info. Thanks, Nick | |

| Welcome to the forum and welcome to the addiction.
As much as the PoPo boys hate to admit it, the Rhino is not dead. Go ahead an get that JBS sheave. It is the best mod you can do for a Rhino. You won't regret it. Again, welcome to the site. Be sure to post up lots of pics.

| Thanks, and apparently I am picture challenged. Don't see where to do it at. But about the sheave, was wondering how that might affect the warranty. I got a 2 1/2 year warranty with the bike, not sure if Yamaha would mind. Nick | |

Nick not sure about your dealership but mine is a Pro Yamaha dealership and I asked them the same question and they told me as long as they are the ones doing the work to my bike and know what is going on it and who is doing it I have nothing to worry about with my 4 year extended warranty. It also doubles as a way for them to know what each mod does for the rhino so they can honestly tell people with knowledge and not opinion. They have done the same for my buddy Kevin's rhino as well. And not to beat a deadhorse but the JBS Sheave is the best mod you will do to get the biggest bang for your buck and turn your rhino into what it should have been stock!! Next mod would be the Stage2 cam and fuel controler that was the second best thing I did hands down.

| Concerning the sheave and warranty... Since the JBS sheave is a new machined sheave that replaced your stock sheave, and because it is a simple modification, I'd just put the stock sheave back on if you need major warranty work on the engine or drivetrain. Kind of like guys who put their stock tires back on for warranty work.
But check with the dealer first. But some dealers are stoopid. I asked my dealer about a "clutch kit" and they didn't even know what I was talking about. Heck, even their "Yamaha Tecnician" had never installed a clutch kit. "The Rhino doesn't need one," he said. "Those 28" Outlaws will be fine." Right. This was also the same dealership who has only replaced "a couple belts" on Rhinos because they last the life of the vehicle. Ummm....
After I did some motor work and my Rhino could easily run 60+mph, I swung by there to pick up some oil and a filter. I had my Rhino on the trailer and the guys came out looking at it, noticing first the Muzzy dual exhaust. When I told them it was about as fast as a RZR, they looked at me like I had slapped their momma. They said they'd never seen a Rhino that fast. I told them to check out the boys from JBS in West Virginia and from El Cajon, California at Alba.
But if you need a deer feeder or a gun rack they will set you up.
It does my heart good to know that there are at least a few dealerships out there who aren't total slimeballs.
I believe the sheave is one of the ways Yamaha intentionally crippled the Rhino into a slower top speed and a milder power delivery. When you are only working with about 40HP, the clutching and gearing need to be right.
I don't think I could put 30" tires on my wheeler, blow a diff, and then expect Yamaha to foot the bill. That's just me. But the sheave is a mod that isn't going to negatively affect your Rhino, especially if you are keeping stockish tires. What the sheave does, in a nutshell, is lowers your starting ratio and increases your top ratio. In other words, it's like getting a lower gear for starting off and and taller overdrive gear for faster cruising. If anything, the sheave decreases the load on the wet clutch and keeps the engine from revving so high when you are cruising.
Ask your dealer the next time you go in there what they think of a aftermarket sheave or a clutch kit. Try to get a feel about their knowledge of mods and warranty.

| Thanks for the input guys. I had the same issues with the dealership when I put a clutch mod on my Kodiak. They said that they could put a new stock one on. And they looked at me like I was speaking a different language. But I got the sheave machined (before I ever heard about JBS, sorry) and it was a noticable difference. Only thing the guy couldn't help me with was the weights. Everyone was putting 450 weights in their 700 Grizzlies. Well, I was working on a 450 already. So I left them the same, and for a 450, runs pretty good. Just don't have alot of interest in riding it anymore now that I have the Rhino. But I will ask them about the warranty thing next time I'm up there. Thanks, Nick | |

| Yeah well said Chris not all dealerships are knowledgable and will work with you for sure. Funny thing is my dealer is setup with JBS and actually ordered my sheave from James for me how cool is that!! They installed one on Kevin's first and then after seeing the difference it made they setup to order from James and no more Black Rhino sheaves and only JBS now!! Only downfall is there isnt a whole lot of rhino guys around here like me and Kevin who have a need for power and speed like we do most guys are checking cows and riding to the mail box. Funny we have more grizzly guys around here and when you ride with those guys and they ride in your rhino for the first time and thier like "SHIT MAN" we just laugh go imagine if you had all this in your grizzly we wouldnt be up your ass all day on this ride would we?? I'd love to see a 2014 grizzly will all my mods and be able to ride it around I bet it would be scary being half the weight. | |

I've thought about the same thing. There are a few guys over at Grizzly Central who have nicely build 700 Grizzlys. I'm willing to bet a Grizz with a 734cc BBK, some head work, and a cam would put a whoopin on some Can-Ams and PoPos. There is a lot of good, reliable, power in that one-lung 700 motor. True, a Rotax motor can be built to to be a complete monster, but a hot rod Grizzly has got to be the perfect bike. The Grizz is well balanced and handles nicely. I loved my Grizzly.

| " /> " /> " />1st time posting pics... Before and after visiting flimmy. " /> I had them in order the first time. When I preview they are all messed up. You get the idea. The river there is about 8 miles downstream from the headwaters of the west branch of the Susquehanna. About 75 feet wide here. | |

| Keep trying with those pics. The very first time i went to the dealer down the road from here, I went to parts to get fuel pump relay, the young guy at the counter did not know what a Rhino was! Yamaha service here sucks. | |
