| I have a code 12 and the cps tests good. It also will not crank with the key. What is the likely hood the ecm or msd box is bad?
Thank you | |

| Crankshaft position sensor;unable to read,no normal signals are received from the crankshaft sensor. The PCM can only read opens and shorts it cannot tell resistance, but anyway I think the CKP sensor is an A/C generator and only produces a signal when cranking. Sounds like an open sensor, plug or wiring. You can check the resistance should be around 450-550 OHM'S. | |

| The Sensor ohms out good and the stator does not look bad no burnt coils etc... The issue that I have is that when it died only after running a couple seconds I had lost power or at least gauge pod was off no display. After checking main fuse etc.. I tried to start again and this time the gauge worked normally except it has a code 12 displayed and when I try to crank the engine light flashes. It will not crank at all I did jumper the starter relay and the starter spins but does not with key function.
I think it is a common failure but it should not be it should still crank even with a bad cps.

| Sorry about missing the no crank, I would suspect that your problems may be a bad ground based problem or green corrosion. | |

| I reassembled the engine. I then moved to electrical tested starter relay, test load relay, inspected fuses and rest of relays. I cleaned all connections and dielectric grease. Hit the key and it started right up. I could not really tell you what is was because I did not see a problem anywhere. All connections were good no corrosion etc...
The only thing I can think of is that the ecu gets packed in with dirt possibly one of the connection there.
Will see how it goes this winter
Thank you for the replies!!
