| I have the plastic factory style that I use when it is colder. It really helps with temp and dust and noise.
Glad You asked this question because I have been playing with the idea of a lexan half windshield for the back. I think it would help with noise and dust for summer time riding.

| Good deal. I hate to ask questions that probably have been answered before, but you never know who may have a new idea or way. This may be dumb, but would you put the half on the bottom or top of rear? Also now that summer is coming, the only benefit of a full rear would be dust, were a half would provide air flow and possible cut down on dust? I understand a full would help keep the cold out in winter time. | |

| Willy i'm thinking on the bottom. I think that would block the most noise. I actually already have a piece cut for it. It is probably 18in high and 48in wide. It comes up to the middle of the head rest. Still just a work in progress though. | |

In my opinion, a rear window is great for keeping heat in the cab, along with a roof, full windshield and full side doors. There, having stated the obvious, I go on: A full rear window probably does some good in blocking sound from the exhaust pipe, but a partial window probably does next to nothing for blocking sound. Sound wraps around corners and leaks through openings very well. I have been able to make an interesting observation regarding how the exhaust sound propogates into the cab. Where I ride there is a bridge built like a railroad trestle. The floor of the bridge consists of widely spaced railroad ties with a couple of narrow widely spaced boards running the length of the bridge, acting as slats for the tires to roll on. This bridge is essentially open to the air below it and the channel underneath is probably 15 feet deep. As I drive onto this bridge the sound of the exhaust drops to what seems like 1/10th of its intensity while driving over solid dirt. This tells me that the majority of the exhaust sound is being reflected off of the ground and passed into the cab through the floor and engine compartment opening underneath. Regarding dust coming in from behind, a windshield is the killer. The air passes around the pane and creates a partial vacuum behind it. This causes dust to be sucked into the cab from behind. This is obvious, eh? A rear window will do the same thing, having a very dense cloud of dust sitting above the bed and following you around. There is air turbulence at the sides and both the front and rear surfaces of the window. This air swirls in a giant eddy which moves the dust from the behind-side of the window and transports it to the front side of the window (inside the cab). So, a rear window is a killer in the dust as well. No windows at all is much better, but there is still dust that is sucked into the cab from behind, due to the obstructions that block the free flowing air. These be the roll cage, seats, hood, steering wheel and even the people in it. With a motorcycle, being very narrow, there is clean air to breathe as long as you are at the lead of the pack, but not so a UTV, even all by yourself. I'll be trying to put together a presentation of my approach to killing this dust pocket behind the machine while moving. I hope to have something posted next weekend or so. I'm pretty much happy with what I have done and I just want to give everyone some ideas. Save up for an industrial strength sewing machine for your shop!

| Steve I'm all ears !!
Been studying this for some time. The approach I'm looking at is a partial shield in the front with a partial shield in the back . I am also working on somewhat of a forced air system coming in from under the dash.
In the end, I'm hoping for enough air flow to somewhat clean the air in the draft that is behind the windshield.

X2 X3 and it pulls really tight when you fasten it and goes all the way to the rear top cage bar above your head. It is the best soft rear window by far.
