| A friend of mine has an 06 660 that he bought a few months ago. He put new brake pads on it a month ago and is already worn down metal to metal. He didn't use oem pads. He mainly has been riding trails. He asked me if there could be something wrong with the calipers to cause such rapid wear? If not, what else could cause it? Thanks all. | |

| Is it the entire set, the parking brake, or just one side? | |

| If he's been down to the metal on the pads how does his rotors look? If they're chewed up and pitted they will eat pads up quicker. | |

| All the above is correct. I put on front brake pads last year, used after market. There shot, down to nothing. I don't use the brake pedal right now if I don't have to. I don't ride hard or in mud either much. They lasted about 1500 miles for me. the original ones lasted 4500 miles. I got new Yamaha ones from JBS in the mail yesterday. Going to put them on next. | |

The pins that the brake pads slide in and out on. They are very tight from the factory, so any mud or any roughness will make the brakes hang and wear them out. James has a video showing how to drill the holes out in the pads so they move more free. We can do the same on our 700s. It's the parking brake only on ours, but those brakes are the parking brake and rear brakes on a 660 and 450. | |

| If he's going in and out of muddy puddles at all it will wear the brakes fairly fast. Especially if he's back on the gas hard and brake hard around fast corners. OEM brake pads definitely last longer | |

| EBC also make a good product, the offer heavy duty. But if there is mud and sand between the friction surfaces you will see accelerated wear. | |

| Make sure that wear the pins pass through the caliper and the edges of the pads are cleaned and lubed. | |
