| From whatiI have read the only thing that can be done is just replace the pads... Dont know for sure. Mine started making a horrible racket after this weekend so I'm just ordering g new pads from James and calling it good enough | |

| I pulled the pads out, they look good 75% remaining, rotor looks good, not all chewed to hell. Nothing loose or falling apart and it seems to function fine, just really noisy. | |

| Mine done the same thing when I got it. As part of some maintenance I was doing, I replaced all the pads. Have not had a problem since. I got my pads from JBS.
So my thought is, Is it just a difference in what the pads are made of ? Don't know, but my JBS pads don't make the noise I had before.
Maybe someone will chime on the difference in brake pads .

x2 i just spray them with silicone spray. don't need to stop anyway. What kind of silicone (brand, advertised purpose, etc.)? The reason I ask is there are a bunch of differing compositions with differing 'oilyness'. It seems like reducing 'stick-slip' without making it all 'slip' would be quite helpful.

| 660 brakes, growly, noisy , squeaky.....sounds pretty normal to me. Only way they quiet down is when I go through a mud hole! | |

| Maybe pull apart and scuff them or they may be a harder compound and are noisier than an OE pad? | |

| Your other option would be to convert them to disc brakes on each rear wheel. | |

i have some honda silicone spray on order, it's 2 bucks cheaper per 12 oz. can. i'll let you know the difference after i experiment a little OK, thanks. That is more along the lines of the silicone fabric sealer/waterproofing products that I have used, rather than the silicone oil or grease products. I may try that! It has to be better than the axle grease that firefighter slathers on his rotor..... BTW FF, you have a PM waiting for you.

That's what I did! NO more noise, better stopping power. In addition, if you break a rear axle you still have brakes. I tried WD 40, silicone, different pads, deglazing the pads and resurfacing the rotor. The noise always came back! One of the best upgrades you can do to the 660!

I purchased the parts from the '08 700 Rhino off of ebay and the rf classified. They bolt right on! Total conversion time was less than 4 hours and $500. I even changed the brake pipe from the master cylinder to the rear line with the engine in, took 20 minutes. That I ordered new from Yamaha, under $20. The 660 master cylinder is fine, no need to change it. You don't have to change the ebrake caliper if you don't want, just cap off the fluid line. I found a guy that had all 3 rear calipers from the '08. Another guy had the uprights with the rotors. Found another guy who had rear arms and the brake hose that had 10 miles on them( took them off to go long travel). You don't need arms, the 660 work. For $50 I couldn't refuse as they had all the bushings and bolts with them. Best of all, that included shipping! He was cleaning out his garage. Other than the brake pipe and 2 axle nuts, everything came from eBay and the rf classified. It took me one month to acquire everything. I just watched and bid everyday. Everything I purchased was in great shape. If you need any specific info, let me know and I'll try and help.

| Do like I did, print off both pages for the rear wheels for the '06 and '08 and compare.
Basically
Axle nuts 2 Rear Uprights- left and right Hubs- 2 Rotors- 2 Calipers left and right Rear Brake hose- left to right wheel Brake pipe- or add on to the 660 Cap for the brake line at the 660 caliper or convert to the 700 ebrake caliper. The 660 ebrake cable hooks up the same. Brake fluid
