| what is harder on the clutch and belt. taller tires or heavier tires? also what would have a bigger impact on loosing bottom end power taller or heavier? I am having a hard time choosing tires. I want something in the 28" - 30" tall range and I am finding the is a big weight difference between a lot of tires. | |

| I was told before that 1 lb of rotating mass is equal to 7 lbs of sitting weight. So yes both taller and heavier will hurt performance. But heavier is worse. More power to get moving and also to stop. | |

I think it would have to be a lot less to offset the added height. When you go taller, you are changing the gearing and raising the lowest speed that you can crawl at with the clutch engaged. I'm thinking if the 28 was only 2 or 3 lbs heavier, I would go with the 28s. If they are a lot heavier, I would go with the lighter 30s if you are building a mud machine. If you spend most of your time at speed on the trails, I think you would hate the 30s. Now if things are really nasty most of the time, and you run 4wd almost everywhere now, then you may really love the huge tires. | |
