| I had a hard time finding a socket too. Had to get a 45mm socket only it was 3/4 " drive. Haven't gotten around to taking the nut off though. Need to order a bunch of parts from James first. | |

| I am assuming that you are taking about removing the spring that is preloading the secondary sheave? I am imagining everyone is using an impact wrench to get that nut loose while leaning onto it with a spare wheel as a pressing tool. To use an impact wrench, you do indeed need to use a socket wrench. I posted a thread regarding a home-brew compression tool that I made: https://hotrodrhinoforums.forumotion.com/t323-homebrew-secondary-spring-compressorWhen using this tool, the base block is bolted onto the outermost sheave and then held in a vise. In that position it is quite easy to break the nut loose, using a large crescent wrench. DO NOT take the nut off all of the way, else it will all blow up into your face! The sheave is kept from rotating by the base block being clamped onto the vise. Then you need to compress the spring using this tool or the spare wheel technique and simply spin the nut off using your fingers. The order of the steps is reversed when re-assembling and the crescent wrench works then too. | |
