Don't feel bad. There are a lot of tachometers on the market, but not very many of them work in a Rhino, for whatever reason. I suspect that the reason is that the Rhino ignition coil has no ballast resistor which was the way that most all automobiles were set up (a carry over from the old breaker points igniton systems).. Back in 2005, nobody could make one work, so I went the snowmobile tach route. Apparently, times are changing and some are working decently.

| I would like to have a tach, but heard enough about them not working right on rhinos to stay away. It would be cool to have if it works and don't cost a fortune. | |

- Hi guys,
I installed GLOWSHIFT Black 7 Color 3 3/4 Tachometer w/ Shift Light
In my 700 works great and it's support single cylender

I have the trifire from hunterwork. and i wonder if this one would work with mine They say it fires 3 times for ever stroke so does that mean i COULD set it to the 3 cylinder and it would work right? Or is would it be set it to 6 cyl because the Rhino has a "wasted spark" that it doubles up on the 3 sparks???? Im very curious as the gauge looks nice and I wouldnt mind having a tach.

yeah i understand that...but my question is because the Tri-fire fires 3 times for every normal single fire i wonder if it would need set different? because then instead of a single fire per rotation you get 3....thus trippleing the tach reading (your at 1000 rpm and its showing 3000). but then because there is a "wasted spark" would it already be reading would it already be reading double and then the 3 fires for each on top of that? Im sure i could make it work but it was just more i was curious

Because you are reading 800 RPM at idle and it should be reading 1500 or so, it certainly looks like you are off by a factor of 2. It undoubtedly would be a good idea to find the idle RPM spec for the 700 just to be absolutely sure. I would be very surprised if was indeed 800 RPM.I am thinking that it would be difficult to get a good smooth idle on a single cylinder at that low speed. Multiple cylinders fire alternately so there are more power pulses per revolution to keep the engine turning smoothly at any given RPM, hence the lower idle speed. I cannot tell you what the redline would be for your engine, as the redline is a number to 'not exceed, lest your engine blow up'. It will be related to the capabilities of all of the components within the engine. However, the peak running RPM will be somewhere in the ballpark of 7,000 to 8,000 RPM based on what I see on my Rhino. For certain, it will be much higher than 4,000 RPM and it will be much less than 16,000 RPM, which would be what you would see if the tach calibration was off by a factor of 2, one way or the other. So, fire it up and wind it out on a straight stretch. If you see the tach at either of those extremes, you can be certain that is off by a factor of 2.

| well I guess I have the same problem as JBS. the 8068 must not work with the 700 runing msd because it will only show idle at 800rpm. the idle for a 700 is 1500rpm. I notice all the guys runing the 8068 have 660 and no msd, so thats gotta be the problem, cus it is hooked up correctly and set up right. "if its too good to be true it usually is"....60 bucks...lol | |

| My dash gauges are glow shift, I just ordered a steering column tach from them also. I'll give it a try. Larry, you can try my Equus if you want. I'll send it to ya, if it works, we can trade it out later. Inbox me your address if your interested. | |

| OK, guys with Equus tachometers that are indicating an RPM reading, but displaying the wrong RPM number. Here is a snip out of the Equus installation manual. It is an unusual (to me) setup scheme, in that there is an internal signal generator reference that is used to get a readout. The instructions give a step by step procedure to get this internal signal to register on the display. You will want it to display 1000 RPM after repeatedly pushing the little red button a few times (this is with the engine not running). This will set it up for 2 cylinder spark timing. Good luck and I hope that this helps you out. There is another chart which says that it should read 500 RPM if you are using an inductive pickup on the spark plug wire. With the lost spark situation, I believe that should work out to 1000RPM there as well. So you have to decide which setup you have to go by.

Oh, you ARE a sneaky devil aren't you. HAHA Probably got a little gypsy in me !!! Seriously tho, from reading You post, I think they could change the setting and probably be really close. I would think the ones that are reading from the plug wire should work on a 700 or 660

| thx Steve, I tried both settings and it still read 800rpm at idle. I already got my money back, sent back to amazon. could it be the msd? it is a staight foward hook up, not too difficult, so I'm not sure. to me its worthless if it is not accurate. | |
