| I did not want to hijack the other thread since I had some "stupid" questions. Couple question here. On the water temp/volt gauges can you use any automotive type gauges? If so do you just T into the line and on which side of the radiator do you all recommend? On the volt gauge do you just connect it to the positive side of the main battery? I have been considering these gauges http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/black-7-color-water-temperature-gauge.aspx Any thoughts? Sorry if these are dumb questions I used to do a lot of mods on duramax motors but this rhino is a different beast for me. I am not sure if I can just use the same methods I did in the diesel motor world or not....I keep second guessing myself since I am not familiar with this motor. It is driving my OCD self crazy. | |

| What duramax's did you work on? I am trying to save up and buy one for my first truck hopefully a 06 lly, 06 07 lbz or an lmm. Sorry fr the hijack I haven't done any gauges yet and was wondering the same thing. | |

| LB7: mostly minor stuff
LLY: Everything you can imagine. Tried a big single turbo, twins, injectors, lift pumps, transmission (had that built but did the install), head studs, EFI Live, etc. My 05 LLY's best dyno was 783 rwhp.
LBZ: About the same as the LLY.
LMM: I owned one and didn't do much to it. I didn't like the truck to be honest.
If you are looking I would strongly recommend an LBZ. The LLY was a decent motor, but they didn't make the coolers big enough and when trailering it was a pain in the ass. I have a '12 now and am still contemplating how much money I want to blow. Right now I have about $10,000 in stuff I want for the Rhino so that is keeping the dmax on the back burner.
If you ever need help, have questions, or want recommendations on people to see in your area let me know. I met a lot of people when I was really into that stuff.

Yes You can use automotive type gauges. Most people tie in to the driver side radiator hose about 6 in from radiator. Connect volt meter to + side of main battery . Only dumb questions here are ones not asked ! Hope this helps Ya !

Not sure on the oil temp. Onebuilder can tell You though. He has one . Maybe some will chime in on where to put it.

Are running a stock cooler and lines or did you modify it? Do you have a remote filter assy?

Jimmy aka Rlhinonut has the gloshift digital gauges and loves them. He has had his for years with no issues. Automotive gauges will work. Marine gauges are better for the vibrations and moisture. I'm not a fan of the inline tees, had one from BRP and it restricted the coolant flow about 40%. I have a billet extension that bolts onto the outlet on the engine and has a port for the sensor. If you add a volt gauge make sure it's on a switched circuit so it's not hot all the time. When adding electrical components I strongly suggest adding a Painless fuse block and ground block.

When adding electrical components I strongly suggest adding a Painless fuse block and ground block. X2 on the connection for the voltmeter. You can hook it directly to the battery but there will be a small constant current draw into the gauge. For day to day usage it will not matter much, but it definitely will matter over the duration of a seasonal layover or such. Measuring at the battery is the most accurate. The voltage reading will fluctuate with current being drawn on the particular circuit that you tap into. The best compromise would be to connect the voltmeter to the ignition switch terminal, on the switched side.

| Good catch, Guys !
I need to clarify my statement "Connect volt meter to + side of main battery" is wrong. I should have said on a switched circuit ! Or Yes, the gauge would be reading all the time and have a draw on it.

| I' m in the process of adding an aux. battery through a battery separator and am considering installing a voltmeter with a dpdt momentary switch in order to check the status of both batteries with one meter. Just an idea. | |
