| I was watching a video of a drag race between a Yamaha Viking and two Polaris Rangers an 800 and 900 XP, the Viking smoked the 800 and was half a car behind the 900, where was this preformance before:?: | |

| That video is awesome piece of marketing. Yamaha is making no secret about it. They are out to steal the Polaris Ranger market share.
I am personally interested in how they did those acceleration runs. The Ranger 800 is fairly quick. If this Viking is able to beat a 800 Ranger, then they made some improvements to the power output. Last I checked, a stock Ranger 800 was faster than a Rhino 700 in a drag. The Viking is heavier than the Rhino on paper, so it would seem Yamaha found a way to put more power to the ground. And a 50MPH top speed from the factory- I wonder if that is through a raised rev limiter, different clutching, or different transmission ratios.
I am kinda eager to see the first dissection of one of these Vikings by someone knowledgable. What's going on under the hood???

| Oh trust me. I know they are killer looking with 3" lift n 32's. electrical issues are the key. Deep water and all there electronics don't mix. I know they been doing well, but I want something that does great. Breaking stuff will always happen but when you turn your lights on and the bike kills, that won't cut it. | |

| It must not have that good of acceleration because that race was on a gravel road and my buddies mostly stock Rhino smokes me for the first 60 or 80 feet because I can't get any traction at all on gravel roads and then I blow past him. That short distance they raced I would have been all over the place still. | |

they raised the compression, and probably changed the gearing. stroke and bore are the same. it's heavier, but has more towing capacity and more fuel capacity, so they prolly tweaked the fuel maps, too. don't see anything about valves, so their valve timing is prolly different... that could get more air into the cylinder in a hurry

| they probably put the raptor cam in it and raised the rev limit a bit.... that would improve all rhinos over stock as well..... the raptor set up is very strong and can be made to really impress lots.. | |

| I'd like to look inside the head of the Viking and compare it to a Rhino 700 head. My guess is it's flowing a lot more air. I have seen what a good port job can do to a 686, it's crazy how much power is left in those heads. | |

| Yamaha claims that the 700 has more horse power than the 800 Ranger, and the Polaris claims 65 HP in the 900 XP. So the Viking is somewhere around 60 HP I would say. I think thats about double the Rhino 700. 800 50HP,900 65HP | |
