| Holy cow, chris. Well im glad the rings turned out to be ok, I agree on asking james about that leak, and double check your torque. Being patient is one of the best things to be, just dont let frustration get to you. One day at a time my friend. Heck, Im even excited for you on this project..haha. Good Luck. | |

| Let me show a picture of the oil leak. Look right above the oil filter and the oil lines. The cylinder base gasket is leaking bad! It's a steady drip when the motor is running. The only think I can think of that I did wrong was install the cylinder base gasket upside down. There is a little tab that sticks off the gasket. The tab is facing the exhaust side on my motor. I suppose it should be facing the intake side. Well shucks, it looks like I get to take the motor apart anyway... lol. I guess I need to order new head and base gaskets, too, huh? They are one time use is what I understood from you guys when I thought I was going to have to pull the motor apart from the wrong rings. I currently have Cometic gaskets. | |

| When you tear it down, try to leave the piston in the cylinder and take the piston pin out, that way your rings dont get turned...good luck chris!! | |

| i wouldnt reuse them on something like this.... i know its only money but do it right or dont do it at all.... lol Looking good tho Chris,,,, It happenes to us all when we start doing more motor work.... We just took apart our 660 cause we forgot to snap the piston clip in and the pin came out and slapped the cylinder and cracked the piston... It happens to everyone... Remember, if it was easy, everyone would have it already done... Good job | |

| Well I just got educated... I ordered a new set of gaskets this morning. Looks like I get to do this little project again! Good thing the gaskets will be here during Holy Week next week I swear to you James, I will not put a stroker crank in this thing. Unless I blow the middle drive gear in some mud hole. Then I'll just pull the whole motor out, box it up, and ship it to you. How's that sound? | |

| When I go to put the new head and base gaskets in my motor, give me some advice here. James says to install them dry. One guy on the Grizzly forums claims to spray them with a coat or two of the copper gasket spray. The guys doing big bore kits on the Raptor forums say to put a thin layer of silicone on the base gasket. What do you guys say? Will it hurt anything to spray the base gasket with the copper gasket spray? I have some on hand. And would you spray the block and the gasket, or just the gasket. Finally, am I right about me putting the base gasket on upside down the first time? I put the tab facing the exhaust side of the motor. I'm guessing it is supposed to face the intake side, right? The Cometic gaskets did not come with any instructions. My motor leaks oil real bad right now, and I don't want this thing to be leaking when I re-do this job. Ain't nobody got time for dat! | |

| since you bought the kit from alba i would ask nate how he does his.
i don't know the composition of the gasket, but the metal ones that i have seen on other engines don't require any type of additional gasket "sealers" of any kind.
the metal gaskets are designed to absorb & dissipate heat better.
just my 2¢ | |

| I had a base gasket problem one time...spray both sides of the gasket with the copper coat and let it get tacky..then assemble!!no more leaks | |

| The copper coat works well. There's alot of tricks that builders use. No one of them are wrong but no one of them are right. My best opinion is to ask the person you trust the most. So I'd say Nate or James. | |

| Man, I'm getting good at tearing this motor down! It took me less than an hour to get this far into my motor. The problem is, I don't want to be good at this, and I'm not sure "good" is the right word. I'm good at tearing up a motor. I'm good at tearing down a motor. But I'll hold off on the "good" at building a motor until this thing runs without leaking oil (or worse, lol!) The new gaskets should be at my house tomorrow. I'm planning on working on this motor and putting it back together Wednesday night and just staying up until I finish it. I really, really, really want to ride! I got a few buddies who have been talking smack about how their big twin cylinder RZR 800, which is stock, is going to whoop up on my little 734cc singe cylinder motor. I'd like to line 'em up and drop the hammer. Then go out in the deep mud and show them how to drive through water deeper than the bottom of the floorboards without getting the belt wet. But first things first. I got to get this motor going! Pray for me! | |

| I got it all put back together! I started it up and ran it for a little while. I can't see oil gushing out of the rear of the engine like last time...
We will see what the daylight brings though. | |
