| Ok, I think my fuel pump is taking a poop. On a ride on Saturday it was idling at camp and then it just turned off, checked tank had half tank. Pulled fuel line from carb and turned motor over and no has was pumping they it for about 5 minutes and filter was dry, tapped pump and gas started to flow into filter and the. Bike started, rode it the rest of the night with only a few hesitations here and there. Got bike home tries to get it off trailer and same thing, no fuel, had to tap pump and finally started to put it in garage, has new filter, changed it Thursday. Does this sound like a pump problem or something else? I was also running really lean plug was brand new looking after i checked it an hour in, it has a 45 pilot and 170 main temp was at 210 I actually had to pull the mikuni needle out and put in a dynojet on the 4th clip to get some tan on my plug, I wonder if pump was causing a lean condition. Anyway should I go with stock pump or or hi flow? Any thought please chime in. Thanks. | |

| I done an Alba high flow pump with the Weller racing clear line kit. The Weller kit allows You to use both outlets on a duel outlet pump. Or JBS has a stock pump. | |

| James, I agree about the dynojet, I don't run one, I only run mikuni but I was running so lean and hot, 210 degrees that the only way to richer it up was by putting in the dynojet needle on the 4th clip, and a 170 main jet and I always run a 45 pilot. Otherwise I just use the mikuni needle with washers in factory location. I want the DJ needle out asap, so if it sounds like fuel pump to you should I go oem or get a high flow? And the clear lines do I really need them or is that just for a cool gas flow show? | |

| I would go clear so you can make sure it's flowing, anytime I replace fuel line on anything I go clear for that reason... my 2 ¢ | |

| I was having lots of fuel issues when I changed the pump. Would not run WOT when hot, would not start when hot, tap on the pump to get it to going, ect.....
Changed the pump and no problems since.....about 2000 miles

| Installed my Alba fuel pump last week, cranked it over and the fuel filter filled right up... Good stuff there! also they stopped sending them out with the jet but the instructions (another mans opinion) shows to use the included jet, I called them to see where my jet was and they advised not to use them anymore, too much restriction. | |

| What jet were they sending with them? I have from 140 to 175 mikuni mains and 40 and 45 mikuni pilots. | |

Yes, it ought to. A pump has a much harder time pulling air than it does pushing fuel. That much less fuel line means less air volume to evacuate in order to prime. The second advantage that the pump gains is the reduced vacuum pressure lift that it needs to accomplish before it starts pulling fuel, due to the lower 'altitude' of the pump. A very worthwhile mod. Since it requires different hose lengths, then is the time to also change the fuel line to transparent fuel rated hose. Do not use the hardware store vinyl hose as the fuel will quickly degrade it and it becomes a fire hazard. I do believe the polyurethane hose material is the best, as long as you pick the right color of tint that makes it go fastest! Watch for good clamping of the hose ends to prevent air seepage which aggravates the loss of prime situation. The different hoses may have different wall thicknesses, creating problems in using the stock clamps.
