| After inspecting the gear and shaft, it appears that the bushing failed on the gear & allowed it to wobble side to side, which in turn forced the clip to pop out of its groove. Apparently the engineers at Yamaha came to this same conclusion because they added a needle bearing to the new gear in the upgrade kit along with the sleeve that eliminates the clip. If you have a '08 or '09 700 without this upgrade kit, ( 2010 up is already installed from factory ...Hmmm) I would be real careful with reverse. By this I mean not backing up a long way or with a big load or even in the mud pit. Just try not to heat up the bushing on the reverse gear. I kinda remember saying one night after a few cold ones " You BIG PUSS, watch me!! ... I'll climb that hill in reverse!!" lol | |

| I was holding off putting my rhino back together untill I could get a stroker crank but things keep coming up that take my funds. I can't take it much longer without my rhino!!! I'm about to put it back together without one. Grrrrr | |

| So the newer Rhino 700s have the updated reverse gear? It would be great for us guys with the newer Rhinos but a problematic area for the earlier 700 Rhinos. I guess if I had to put a good spin on this, at least Yamaha fixes their problems and doesn't let them just persist on after every model year. | |

| I have the reverse gear upgrade, my question is which side does the washer go, in between gear and collar or other side of gear? | |

| The washer goes between the gear & the case. Put the washer on the shaft first then the gear then the sleeve. | |
